GOD:  THE CREATOR

A God of Power
Victor M. Eskew

INTRODUCTION

A.   Because we, as Christians, have God on our minds almost all of the time, we might wrongly believe that others do to.

B.   This is not the case at all.   There are many people in our world who seldom, if ever, give any thought to God.

C.   One thing our world needs is “A Deeper Understanding of God.”

1.    It is not that everyone in the world is an atheist.  If they were asked if they believe there is a God, they would answer in the affirmative.

2.    The problem is that they have never truly considered God.  They have never studied God.  Therefore, they do not have an appreciation of Him.

a.    Job 21:14-15

Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.  What is the Almighty, that we should serve him?  and what profit should we have if we pray unto him?

b.    Jeremiah 4:22

For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding:  they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

D.   To help individuals have a better understanding of God, let’s consider the topic:  “God, The Creator.”

I.             THE MANIFESTO ON CREATION

A.   A manifesto is a public proclamation of something.

B.   For God’s children, the Bible is “The Manifesto on Creation.”

1.    The Bible was revealed by God.

a.    He is the only one who knows the truth about Creation.

b.    He is the only one who was there when the Creation came into existence.

2.    The Bible does not begin with proof regarding the existence of God.  It begins

with God creating (Gen. 1:1).

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

C.   In the cross references for Genesis 1:1 in e-sword, fifty-six verses are listed that reference God as the Creator.

1.    Exodus 20:11

For in six days the Lord made the heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is.

2.    Psalm 102:25

Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth:  and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

3.    Nehemiah 9:6

Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein…

4.    Acts 17:24

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands.

II.           THE MIGHT OF THE CREATION

A.   When God created, our sphere of existence did not exist.

1.    There was no time.

2.    There was no space.

3.    There was not matter.

B.   Out of nothing, God brought something into existence.

1.    Some refer to this as creation ex-nihilo.

2.    Our minds acknowledge God’s being able to create out of nothing, but our minds cannot truly comprehend such a thing.

3.    All God had to do was speak and the things He desired to create came into existence.

a.    Psalm 33:6

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

b.    Psalm 33:9

For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

c.    Psalm 148:5

Let them praise the name of the Lord:  for he commanded, and they were created.

C.   The might of the Creation is seen in…

1.    The immediacy of God’s words coming to fruition (Gen. 1:3)

And God said, Let there be light, and there was light.

2.    The diversity of the Creation:  light, land and sea, plants, the hosts of heaven, fish and birds, the entire animal kingdom, and man.

3.    The complexity of the Creation

a.    Two trillion galaxies exist.

b.    Eleven major systems are in the human body.

c.    Eighty-six billion neurons are in the human brain.

d.    There are 9,800 species of birds on the earth.

4.    The vastness of the Creation

a.    Pluto:  New Horizons launched on January 19, 2006, and it reached Pluto on July 14, 2015.  It took 9 years, 5 months, and 25 days.

b.    The Universe is 93 billion light years in diameter.  This is 547,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles.

c.    Highest point on earth:  Mt. Everest:  29,031 feet, 8-1/2 inches

d.    Deepest point in the sea:  Mariana Trench, 36,037 feet

III.         THE MARVELS OF CREATION

A.   The Design

1.    Not only are we perfectly placed between sun and moon, we are the only planet with liquid water, a breathable atmosphere, a sun perfectly sized to provide just the right amount of energy and a moon perfectly sized to control the tides—keeping our land dry and our oceans sustainable” (www.wisdomonline.com, “What does the solar system tell us about creation?”)

2.    NOTE:  There are about 1 trillion planets in our galaxy and only 1 can support life (Isa. 45:18).

B.   The Diversity

1.    2.16 million species on the earth

2.    1.05 million insects

3.    36,000 fish

4.    11,000 birds

5.    11,000 reptiles

6.    6,000 mammals

7.    15,000 different cultures of men on the earth.

C.   The Beauty

1.    The Great Barrier Reef

2.    The Grand Canyon

3.    The Mandarin Duck

4.    The Brazilain Treehopper

5.    The Cherry Blossom Tree

D.   Man (Ps. 139:14)

1.    Mind:  think, reason, will, feel, plan, conclude, remember

2.    Body:  206 bones, 600 muscles, 60,000 miles of blood vessels

3.    Cells:  30 trillion cells

4.    Emotions:  27 distinct emotions

5.    Conscience:  a feeling that originates in the mind that either approves or condemns our actions based upon training

E.   Nature

1.    Animals

2.    Birds

3.    Fish

4.    Insects

5.    Reptiles

6.    Plants

IV.         THE MISSION OF CREATION

A.   To bless man (Gen. 1:29)

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

B.   To challenge man (Gen. 1:28)

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it…

C.   To prove the existence of God

1.    Psalm 19:1

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.

2.    Romans 1:20

For the invisible things from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.

3.    Hebrews 3:4

For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

V.           THE MOCKERS OF CREATION

A.   Evolution, humanism, atheism

B.   They will boldly affirm that nothing in the earth, the galaxy, or the universe proves the existence of God.

C.   They strenuously fight against a God they say does not exist.

D.   They adhere to beliefs that are utter nonsense.

1.    Matter is eternal.

2.    Life comes from non-life.

3.    Given enough time anything can happen.

4.    Design and order come from an explosion.

5.    The hoaxes of the missing links between apes and men

6.    There have been a galaxy of good mutations to continue evolution

7.    The conscience of man evolved.

E.   Psalm 14:1

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

CONCLUSION

A.   If one word could be used to sum up a quality of God expressed in the Creation, it would be “power.”

B.   Another word expressed by the Creation is “existence.”  God truly exists!
