A Final Charge (Part 2)
Heb. 10:21-11:31
Dalton Gilreath
Think about…
I. Your Brethren, Heb. 10:24-25
Think about your brethren - Come to services – be here for your brethren and not just yourself
“But I don’t care what others think or about pleasing people”…Paul tried to please everyone
We must please everyone to edification as Christ did
Application: Be here for one another, be selfless like the Lord
II. Your Soul, Heb. 10:26-31, 35
Think about the consequences and rewards
Falling back into sin is a terrible end – see = darkness, hear – screams and gnashing, feel = fire/burning, smell = burning brimstone/sulfur (rotten eggs), taste = grinding teeth and great thirst
Rewards are seeing – city of gold (pavement story) and God Himself, hear (angels singing), feel = joy/comfort/peace, smell = we can only imagine, taste = never hunger or thirst again
Application: Think about your soul’s eternal destination
III. Abel, Heb. 11:4
Think about Abel who remained faithful despite family opposition
Family can’t come before God
He won’t leave you alone
Application: Don’t fall away because of family opposition
IV. Enoch, Heb. 11:15
Think about Enoch whose humanity did not get in the way
Some might say they are only human and give up on fighting sin
Put on your big boy pants and fight don’t give up
V. Noah, Heb. 11:7
Think about Noah who didn’t cave to peer pressure
Evil companions
Majority doesn’t rule – funny thing is us + God is majority
Elisha’s servant needed to see it for himself but he had the majority – angels outnumber man bigtime
A. 1 Cor. 15:33
B. Matt. 7:13-14
C. 2 Kings 6:15-17
VI. Abraham, Heb. 11:8
Think about Abraham who went without an overabundance of evidence
Let nature remind you
Let design remind you
A. Rom. 1:20
B. Heb. 3:4
VII. Isaac, Jacob and Joseph, Heb. 11:20-22
Think about Isaac, Jacob and Joseph who were future minded
David lived in the now for a moment not thinking of the future (what about when Uriah gets back, what if she gets pregnant, what will my God think?)
Joseph thought how will this affect my master and my Master
A. 2 Sam. 11:1-4
B. Gen. 39:8-9
VIII. Moses, Heb. 11:27
Triumphing of wicked is a moment – rich man had it all on earth
Think about Moses who did not fear the government
Obey government sure
But not at our soul’s expense
A. Rom. 13:1ff
B. Acts 5:29
