JAMES 1:13

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God:  for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.

 

 

1.    No man

A.   Strong (3367):  not even one (man, woman, thing)

B.    Thayer:  nobody, no one, nothing

C.   Vine:  no man (man stands for person)

 

2.    Say

A.   Strong (3004):  to lay forth…relate…an individual expression or speech

B.    Thayer:  to say, to speak, affirm over, to point out with words, intend, mean, mean to say

C.   Vine:  to speak, to affirm, whether of actual speech, or unspoken thought, or of a message in writing

 

3.    Tempted

A.   Strong (3985):  to test, scrutinize, entice, discipline

B.    Thayer:  to try, make trial of…in a bad sense, to test one maliciously, craftily to put to the proof his feelings or judgments

C.   Vine:  of temptations to sin…James refers to temptation or trial, arising from within, from uncontrolled appetites and from evil passions

 

4.    Cannot be tempted

A.   Strong (551):  not temptable

B.    Thayer:  that cannot be tempted by evil, not liable to temptation to sin

C.   Vine:  untempted, cannot be tempted, untemptable (Mayor)
