DOES BAPTISM NULLIFY THE GRACE OF GOD?

 

 

No! Teaching the truth about the essential nature of baptism in God’s plan of salvation in no way nullifies God’s gift to mankind of salvation by grace! Yes, we teach all sinners must be Scripturally baptized in order to be saved, because that’s what the Bible clearly affirms. However, that no more nullifies the grace of God, than saying one must believe in Jesus, repent of one’s sins, and confess Christ as the Son of God, in order to be saved, for all these are essential Biblical elements of God’s plan for man’s eternal salvation.

 

The Bible no where teaches man is saved by grace alone. Rather, the Bible says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9). You see, God owes no one eternal life, nor can anyone ever merit their own salvation by personal works. However, the Bible says God demands faith and obedience from all those who would receive the benefits of His grace!

 

The same Bible, which teaches the essential nature of faith, teaches the essential nature of baptism! Jesus said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved…” (Mark 16:16).  That one passage ought to settle the matter for anyone who claims to believe the teaching of Christ. However, if you need more convincing, please study the following verses: Acts 2:38, 8:26-40, 22:16, Romans 6:3-7, Galatians 3:26-27, and I Peter 3:21, which says, “…baptism doth also now save us…”
