The Blame Game
by: Dalton Gilreath

The blame game has existed since the creation of Adam and Eve. When God questioned them about eating from the forbidden tree, Adam immediately responded by blaming Eve. When God turned to address Eve she threw the blame over to the serpent. While God did punish the serpent for his deception, He also punished not only Eve but Adam as well. No one likes to be told they are wrong. In fact, it is human nature to respond to criticism defensively. This often results in someone else being blamed for personal mishaps. However, the Bible teaches Christians to examine themselves (2 Corinthians 13:5). It is certainly probable that someone’s influence can lead another to sin, and they will in fact be held responsible for causing others to stumble (Rom 14:21). However, God does relieve any sinner of the responsibility of sin simply due to that individual following another’s poor example. The decision to sin always lies in the hands of the individual no matter the situation. God will hold every party responsible on judgment day. Therefore, whenever someone brings up sin or a sermon steps on some toes, don’t look around at who else might be at fault, but look inward.
